Every place has its own traditional food, a dish you simply have to try. Some countries are even famous worldwide for their cuisine, such as France.
Ibiza’s food is not widely known beyond the island or the Balearics, much like Menorcan dishes or Formentera’s cuisine. Mallorca’s sobrasada and ensaïmadas are a little better known.
The cuisines of the Balearic Islands share their essence, ingredients and cooking methods. Yet their geographical separation has produced different dishes from the same ingredients and techniques. Since Can Toni d’Atzaró is in Ibiza, we focus on our own culinary specialities, which are truly succulent, delicious and wonderfully satisfying.
Interesting facts about Ibiza’s food
When you are hungry, any dish is welcome. But what would you say if we told you that the first requirement of Ibizan cooking is for everything to come from the land?
One of the strengths of our cuisine is that most ingredients are local, from home and from our land — and even better if you have grown them yourself. This turns any traditional Ibizan dish into a real delicacy.
One aspect of our cuisine that catches visitors’ attention is our starters and appetisers!
Yes, here in Ibiza, something as simple as an appetiser becomes a star dish while you wait for the first course. How? As simple as…
Country bread + aioli + Cracked olives
A rustic loaf, deeply rooted in everyday life, served with a thick garlic and olive oil sauce and olives marinated with fennel.
Some traditional dishes
Sweet? Savoury? Liqueurs? We have it all! Incredible, but true. Here are some of our most traditional or representative dishes. Ibiza offers mouth-watering recipes for every taste.
You can find them in good traditional Ibizan restaurants. Not every restaurant serves them all, of course, but for a truly Ibizan experience, visit a country restaurant and try, for example…
Bullit and guisat de peix, sofrit pagès, borrida de ratjada, frita de pulpo, arroz de matanza, ensalada payesa, and desserts such as greixonera or flaó.
Alongside a truly Ibizan experience — visiting coves such as Cala Escondida in Sant Josep, going to a world-famous club such as Pacha, or enjoying traditional home cooking at Cas Pagès in Santa Eulària des Riu — you may want to take something home so everyone can discover Ibiza’s delights. Be sure to pack local products such as sobrasada, butifarra, herbal liqueurs or cheese from Santa Gertrudis.
